Dumbass of the Month Nominee: FEMA
.
Before anyone goes and gets themselves in a lather let me say, as a citizen of Louisiana, that I don't believe the Federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina- or any other hurricanes for that matter- was particularly slow nor inadequate.
..
I have placed the vast majority of the blame, firstly, on the people of New Orleans who elected to put themselves in danger for a chance at a free shopping trip, secondly, on their moronic mayor, and lastly, on our deer-in-the-headlights- governoress Kathleen Blank stare.
..
Now, it's FEMA's turn. I heard this on the radio and immediately thought, "This is immpossible to believe." After a little Googling, sure enough, I've found it's true. You can read some of the story here: http://www.ksat.com/news/5104394/detail.html
.
There can be no excuse for stone-walling local authorities who are trying to identify evacuees who are convicted sex offenders but that is exactly what FEMA was trying to do. Under the guise of their right to privacy, FEMA stated it wouldn't release the names of evacuees who were suspected sex offenders. Once again, political correctness trumps reality.
.
The only comforting thing that came of this nonsense is that I haven't been alone in my thinking. FEMA's refusal to cooperate caused quite an uproar. Remember, this is Texas we're talking about folks, not Vermont. FEMA officials now claim they have been cooperating the whole time. If that's so, why did Bexar county DA Susan Reed have to go to court in order to get the names?
.
This goes back to one of my original posts. I stated that while it was gratifying to see so many people helping those in need, those same people might regret it one day. If you've ever been to New Orleans, especially the Ninth Ward, you'd have barricaded your door rather than open it. As many of the generous blue state liberals are now finding out, most of those people are the scum of the earth. You wouldn't be comfortable with them in your neighborhood let alone your house.
